The Great Gatsby
There has been a lot of buzz about The Great Gatsby lately with the new movie about to come out. I hope that most of you have read the book because if you haven't, you're missing out. It's a classic novel with complex, interesting characters, thought provoking symbolism and a story that I never get tired of reliving. It's not the happiest of tales but it's lovely nonetheless. I know it's a beloved book to many readers and I definitely needed to share it in this post. I looooved the 1974 version of the film and I can't wait for the new one to hit theaters!
Cthulhu
Cthulhu is a mythical creature from the mind of H. P. Lovecraft and I think this guy is making a come back. I loved reading Lovecraft growing up and I was always fascinated with The Call of Cthulhu and the idea of a monster lurking beneath the ocean. Lately, Cthulhu has been popping up everywhere. I've been seeing little plushies and drawings and I love it! Cthulhu has crept back in to the front of my mind and stayed there for a few days now.
The Golden Girls
What can I possibly say about this show that will convey the adoration I have for it? I. Love. The. Golden. Girls. I fall asleep to these ladies almost every night. I never get tired of watching them. It really is like visiting and old friend. I still get a kick out of the jokes and I don't know what I would do if I was feeling down and didn't have this show to watch. Do you love The Golden Girls? Who doesn't? I mean really....who doesn't?
And with that, we conclude the first edition of "A few of my favorite things" thank you, Sound of Music.
I'm only going to do 3 or 4 at a time so that I'm not bombarding you guys with 50 different fun things. I think that today's short list is rather eclectic and I like it!
Do we have any favorite things in common?

I loooove The Golden Girls, so incredibly funny haha :)
ReplyDeleteThey are the best :D
DeleteI can't tell you how many people have told me to read H.P. Lovecraft but alas I have not yet...I will though! I actually just put The Great Gatsby on my future reading list post I did today because I want to re-read it. I read it and loved it in high school but I remember having to dissect too many things about for a term paper, so I wonder if I will still enjoy it when I read it for fun! =) Have a great day!

You have to read it!!! I also read Gatsby in school and then read it after I graduated and i loved it even more. It became so much more personal.
DeleteThanks :) <3
I adore The Great Gatsby! I have read the book, and just watched the 1974 movie version again last week (it's on netflix). I am a huge fan of F. Scott Fitzgerald's work. His novel Tender is the Night is pretty fantastic. I think I may even like it a pinch more than Gatsby (and that's saying a lot). Also his short stories are some of my favorites. It's amazing how much detail and feeling he can cram into a story. If you can find the book Dear Scott, Dearest Zelda I recommend that too. It's the letters between Fitz and his wife Zelda. They are so romantic and sweet. Totally worth a read! Anyway, I am sort of an enormous Fitzgerald fan so sorry for the long comment. :)

ummm... so I love all three of these things!!!
ReplyDeleteI'm always lecturing people about reading the Great Gatsby. I read it in middle school I believe and have re-read it every couple of years since then. It's so amazing that it's always shocking to me at the end.
I also love the 1974 version of the film and that's why I'm kind of apprehensive about the new one. We shall see.
Cthulhu is rad. I really don't know what else to say about a big green monster with tentacles on his face?! Amazing.
Golden Girls is a show I truly treasure and will never tire of. Plus, I love old people <3
Ps: I'm glad I'm not the only one who doesn't understand the whole link up think.
I've been long and considering posting a "favorite things" type of post.
ReplyDeleteI'm a huge horror fan and still haven't read any Lovecraft but it's on my list. Have you ever seen this Cthulhu crocheted hat? I just love it!
I LOVE Fitzgerald, specifically Gatsby. I'm actually dreading the new movie because I'm not a Baz Luhrman fan. I hope he doesn't completely ruin such a beautiful and poetic work.
ReplyDeleteThey've made a movie for The Great Gatsby? Oh man, I'll have to see that! I am so out of the loop these days without cable and all.
ReplyDeleteLooove The Golden Girls!! My best friend and I have been watching it together since we were five years old! Also, I have never read The Great Gatsby which is so disappointing for me to say, but it's on my book list for this year. (Especially before watching the movie, because that always ruins my interpretations of the characters.)
