Finding my way back to books.
I was a TERRIBLE reader in 2012. I read maybe...5 books?
Not okay.
I miss my reading time and I really want to make an effort to get back into the wonderful world of the written word. So I'm going to set a goal for 2013:
2 books a month.
Some of you may think this is hardly a "goal" but for me, with my classes and a full time job, this is pretty serious. I normally average at around a book a month with some exceptions when I get on a reading kick. I have SO many poor, neglected books just BEGGING to be read and it's time that I let them have their moment.
Wish me luck!!!
How often do you guys read? I'm not quite ready for a slew of reccomendations but if there is something that I simply MUST read, let me know :)

I hear you! I think I read about 5 as well. That's a goal for me, for sure.
ReplyDeleteI hate to send out a recommendation because I'm sure you're going to get one from everyone.. but my absolute favorite book is "Written on the Body." It's beautiful! It's a love story where the author never says if the main character is male or female. It's lovely!
I will definitely add that to my list! It sounds interesting.
DeleteThanks :) <3
I'm trying to read more as well! Well, listen. I am in my car about 1.5 hours each day, so I've been getting books through audible!
ReplyDeleteI will keep my recommendations quiet for now. (I am addicted to YA haha)
I've been wanting to try that out. Especially because I'm a re-reader haha.
DeleteI'll be sure to come to you when my reading well runs dry!

I set a reading goal for myself every year but have yet to reach it, which I am oddly o.k. with. As long as I am working towards my goal, it means that I am at least reading something so that's a win in my book!
ReplyDeleteI totally agree! As long as its on your mind, you're in good shape.
DeleteMy boyfriend got me a Nook last year and I have been inseparable from it! I read constantly! I try to read a little bit every night. Maybe that could be a good start for you! Also if you don't have one, get a library card =) When books are free it's so much easier to read them! =)

I just got an iPad so ill definitely be doing the ebook thing at least some of the time.
DeleteI do need to get a library card! What a good idea.
You can do it! I have a reading goal this year too :)
ReplyDeleteGood luck to us! We can do it!
DeleteSame here! It was quite a feat to read through the Lord of the Rings (which I HIGHLY recommend, it seems intimidating at first but it's a great novel).
ReplyDeleteA good place to start is read short stories. I enjoyed them because most of the time I get bored in the middle of a book and start another one. I would read Reader's Digest's stories and loved them!
I loooove The Lord of the Rings!
DeleteEasing my way back in is definitely a good idea.
Thanks :D
Just rec'd a Kindle for my birthday and read my first book of the year, which was pretty fabulous - 'The Perks of Being a Wallflower'. An amazing little read. Good luck with your challenge.
ReplyDeleteOoh that's on my list. Thank you! :)
DeleteThat is a great goal!! I need to read more too. I love reading, but I don't do it enough. Love your blog!
ReplyDeleteThank you! I love your blog as well, great to meet you :)
DeleteI read before I go to bed e v e r y night. I do it because I have nightmares otherwise. I also read on days that it's to cold to go outside and inspiration to anything else is lacking.
ReplyDeleteHope that helps,
Cody

Thanks!
DeleteSounds like a good goal! I need to read more. I might steal this resolution
ReplyDeleteThank you!! Steal it :)

I miss reading, but I feel like I have a specific genre of books I like and right now I'm stuck waiting for my favorite authors to put out new stuff. You should definitely share with us if you find some really good books!
ReplyDeleteI'll be sharing for sure!!
Delete:)
As resolutions go, reading more is always a pretty good one to go for! It was my resolution last year, all it took was making it part of my daily ritual when normally I would be faffing :)
ReplyDeleteThat's what I'm going to have to do. Integrate it into my life again.
DeleteThanks :)
SO awesome! I set the same goal for myself this year: 2 books a month. Awesome!! Good luck! xo
ReplyDeleteWe can do it! :D
DeleteI try to read as much as possible, but last year was bad for me too. Me and my kids have library cards and they read like crazy! Good luck! I just finished a book and it was okay...on to the next!
ReplyDeleteXo,
Eeka
Thank you! <3
DeleteWe're not even going to talk about how bad I am at starting a book & not finishing it lately. I've always been a book girl too but lately it's just been waaaay too hard
ReplyDeleteIt's so hard to find time for it. I'm hoping to change that though!
DeleteI was in the same boat last year! I had such a struggle trying to read, but I could never find the motivation because schoolwork always drained it out of me. Then I realized that reading was actually an escape from all that stress and sense of 'no time for anything' that I felt. I found it really helpful to start out with reading something I'd read before and really enjoyed, which in my case was the hobbit. It's nice because you're reading for fun, but you don't need to read so seriously because it's something you've read before. Also, have you tried out goodreads? For some reason, being able to document what books I've read and what I've thought of them is so nice and actually motivates me to read more! Good luck with your challenge

I love rereading books so that is an excellent idea. I've also been wanting to check out goodreads, thanks!!
DeleteHi, I love your blog so much that I nominated it for the Liebster Award! Please click the link to find out more :)

Have you read "Good Omens" yet?
ReplyDeleteI have! I loooove Neil Gaiman!
DeleteI've been reading A LOT of body positive books. Hot and Heavy as well as Lessons from the Fat-o-sphere are two of my favorites!
ReplyDeleteI'm adding them to my list! Thanks, love!

Two books a month is one of my 2013 resolutions, too... well, just add "At least..." as its prefix. Last year, my reading frequency has dwindled, on account of being busy with a lot other things, but I figured it was a bad excuse, nonetheless.
ReplyDeleteIn terms of recommendations, here are some books that I enjoyed:
1. "Life of Pi" by Yann Martel
2. "People of the book" by Geraldine Brooks (May be up your alley, if you like Dan Brown.)
3. "Elegance of the Hedgehog" by Muriel Barbery
4. "World War Z" by Max Brooks (Which happened to be the last book I read.)
Hope these help. Good luck on fulfilling this, and wishing you a great literary journey through many great books!
Awesome recommendations! Thank you!
DeleteI am definitely with you on the being busy thing. Hopefully this year will be different.
Thanks!
I hate when my reading while to the wayside due to all the other commitments in life! Two books a month is an admirable goal. I personally prefer the classic (Hemingway and Fitzgerald) but my favorite book, an absolute must read is Love is a Mixtape by Rob Sheffield. It's heartbreaking, you will ache when you read it but it is also so full of love, humor and music. It's wonderful.
ReplyDeleteGood luck with your goal.
Cheers.
Thank you!! I'll add that to my list as well.
