Doodles.

So in my off time this weekend, I've been experimenting with illustration. I love to draw and I've always wanted to play around with digital illustrators. Mainly because I'm kind of a messy artist in general and when I paint or draw, it's usually quite a production. This is especially true in my tiny apartment because I can't leave supplies laying around. One of my dreams is to have an art room where I can close my kitties out and make a mess without worrying about a security deposit or not being able to cook that night because I have painting supplies everywhere.

Here's a small sampling of some of the mini sketches that I like to do when I'm feeling creative but I don't feel like I have the time to drag out all of my supplies.I've shown these before on my blog but I don't have any sketches with me here.

 Experimenting with different eyeballs.
My true love is pen and ink. I always say that I like for my sketches to look like something you would find in one of Da Vinci's notebooks. Not that I actually think they do, but that's the inspiration.

And here is my first attempt at digital drawing. I used the ArtStudio app for iPad. It's nothing fancy but I enjoyed it. I tried to keep things pretty simple until I can maybe get some computer software for this kind of thing. Right now I'm just having fun with it.
Here's a silly self portrait. I don't hate it. I don't know if it really looks like me aside from the obvious similarities.
Here's a little "Tea" print. I like it even though it's so plain.

What do you guys think? I know they aren't exactly on par with professionals but I had a blast experimenting and playing around with them.

I'm trying to get a hang of it myself.
Love the little skull illustration. You did a good job with the digital drawings as well! She does look like you, btw.

  2. I have the same issue with artistic endeavors... If they're out and about and accessible, it's easy enough for me to get into it... but when I have to put things away because they're in the way, I'm less likely to pull it out in the first place... but I don't really have a choice because our place is small.

    1. Exactly. In a tiny place, it can be too much of a hassle sometimes. Which is really a shame. I'd love to have space to stretch out.

  3. Loving the doodles! Random but true fact: I used to take art classes in HS and was always obsessed with trying to sketch the eye! True story.

  8. They're great! I'm always a little in awe of people who have artistic talent ... I was never at risk of that given that it was a mutual decision when I was in 8th grade that I wouldn't re-enrol for art class.
